BIRGIT RASTRUP My Works I sew tapestries and puppet theatre curtains in various forms of appliqué work such as mola, quilt, embroidery etc, and make masks and shields in gauze or leather made on a clay or plaster base. As the finishing touch, I paint and decorate the masks with horses’ hair, feathers and the like. My works are meant both to be displayed on the wall and to be used for carnival, theatre and dancing. My INSPIRATION springs from nature and old ethnic cultures. The four corners of the world and the four elements are a basic theme in my works. I am inspired by indigenous peoples across the world, particularly by their wealth of symbols and old mask making traditions. Born March 8th, 1946.
